HISTORICAL NOTES:
Xinuluo founded this kingdom of the Bai people in the region of modern Sichuan province, China. The first capital was located at Taihe (modern Jiangling). In 751 AD General Duan Jianwei defeated 80,000 Tang Dynasty soldiers at Jiannan. Years later, forces of Nan Chao (aka Nanzhao) expanded into Chinese territory, including the conquest of Chengdu in 829 AD. However, Chinese troops responded and eventually overthrew Nan Chao in a bloody reprisal in 902 AD.

In 937 AD Duan Siping established the Kingdom of Dali. This kingdom resisted numerous Chinese attempts of conquest but fell to the forces of Khublai Khan in 1253 AD. A local traitor led Mongol troops along a secret route to undermine strong defenses near Erhai Lake.
